More Details

Yes, The Halo Light is designed to work on the majority of hard hats whether worn forwards or backwards.

More Details

It will depend on how your earmuffs connect to your hard hat. There are some types of clip-on hard hat accessories including earmuffs that are not compatible with The Halo Light.

Behind-the-head earmuffs such as the Optime 95, 101 and 105 from 3M work fine, however.

More Details

It will depend on how your face shield connects to your hard hat. The Halo Light works with many low profile face shields that clip onto the brim of a cap-style or full brim hard hat. Examples of face shields that work include the MSA Defender, Pyramex Cap and Full Brim Adapters, and Radians adapters, as well as Crews, Fibre Metal, and ERB Brackets. Please note that when The Halo Light is on the hard hat, however, the face shield cannot be lifted up. There are some types of face shields such as the ones that clip into the side slots of the hard hat that are usually not compatible with The Halo Light.

More Details

No. Please let sales@illumagear.com know if you are interested in such a product.

More Details

Not that we’ve experienced and no more than using any other personal head-mounted light.

More Details

It depends on the circumstances. In some cases, nearby workers also benefit from the amount of light produced by The Halo Light. In other cases, you may wish to switch to Dim mode when working with or speaking to others.

One advantage The Halo Light offers over other headlamps is that its 360 degree illumination allows other people’s eyes to gradually adjust as they approach the wearer, rather than being blinded when the wearer turns suddenly.

Specifications

The Halo Light has been designed to survive in tough environments. It has an Ingress Protection Rating of IP67, meaning it keeps out all dirt, dust, and pressurized water spray and can withstand immersion in water up to 1m.  In lab tests, The Halo Light survives repeated 10-foot drops onto concrete. But don't take our word for it, check out our abuse tests here or on the ILLUMAGEAR YouTube channel.

More Details

OSHA standard 1926.56 refers to work area illumination. For area lighting, OSHA requires 5 foot-candle for general construction area lighting, 10 foot-candle for construction plants and shops, and 30 foot-candle for first-aid stations and infirmaries. OSHA doesn't presently provide any specific requirements for individual lighting.

On Halo mode, The Halo Light produces 39.7 candela. On Task mode it produces 77 candela. On Halo mode, The Halo Light produces 202 lumens in 360 degrees. On Task mode, The Halo Light produces 183 lumens, but the light is focused to the front so the foot-candles is more than doubled.

Every job site is different, however. ILLUMAGEAR does not suggest that The Halo Light is the singular answer to overall jobsite area lighting. The Halo Light is not designed to be a replacement for area lighting. It is intended to be a personal active safety system that makes the wearer much more visible to others while also providing a superior personal work area light.

More Details

The Halo weighs about 9 ounces, while the Battery Pack weighs about 10 ounces.

More Details

Yes. The Halo Light battery life is maximized at temperatures ranging from 0°C (32°F) to 50°C (122°F). Storing or operating the product outside of this temperature may shorten the life of the battery. Storing or operating The Halo Light outside the temperature range of -20°C (-4°F) and 60°C (140°F) may damage the product. Placing the Battery Pack in an inner layer when in colder environments may extend battery life.

More Details

No.  While The Halo Light Model #HLPC-03A is a low voltage device, it does not meet Intrinsic Safe (IS) protection standards. ILLUMAGEAR plans to introduce an IS version of the Halo in the future.

More Details

No. The Halo Light band (halo) is certified as passing the performance requirements necessary to meet the standards set by ANSI/ISEA Z89.1, Section 9.7 (“Electrical Insulation”) for Class E (Electrical) Hard Hats. In meeting these specifications, The Halo Light does not invalidate the rating of the Class E hard hat to which it is attached.

The dielectric strength of The Halo Light/Battery system is 9000V so it should not be used in environments with higher voltage hazards.

More Details

The LEDs in The Halo Light are specified at 10,000 hours.

More Details

The Lithium-Ion cells in the Battery Pack are specified at 500 charges.

More Details

The Halo Light is a Personal Active Safety System™. ANSI A10.47 describes Personal Active Safety Systems as a source of illumination that can be used to enhance worker visibility (Section 14.2, “Illumination Levels”). The standard also states that personal active safety devices are a method of providing additional protection for flaggers (Section 5.2.2, “Flagger Safety”).

The Halo Light was specifically designed to not invalidate the ANSI rating of a hard hat. ANSI Z89.1 states that nothing may pierce or permanently affix to the hard hat. Our unique patented tension spring mounting system was designed to hold onto the hard hat without invalidating this rating.

The Halo Light has been tested by an independent NRTL (nationally recognized test lab) to verify that it passes the performance requirements necessary for Class E (Electrical) Hard Hats to meet the standards set by ANSI/ISEA Z89.1, Sections 9.1 ("Flammability"), 9.2 ("Force Transmission"), 9.3 ("Apex Penetration"), and 9.7 (“Electrical Insulation”).

Regarding OSHA, there is no current code that defines lighting requirements in the manner delivered by The Halo Light. According to OSHA standard 1926.56, there are minimum illumination intensities in foot-candles for US job sites. The light emitted by The Halo Light exceeds all minimum requirements as defined by OSHA for any type of construction work. The illumination technical specifications for The Halo Light may be found here.

More Details

Since The Halo Light is mounted on a hard hat, that hard hat needs to meet ANSI standard Z89.1 Per ANSI guideline 1910.269(I)(8)(v)(C): "Arc-rated protection is not necessary for the employee's head when the employee is wearing head protection meeting 1910.135 if the estimated incident energy is less than 9 cal/cm2 for exposures involving single-phase arcs in open air or 5 cal/cm2 for other exposures.” Guideline 1910.135 refers directly to ANSI Z89.1

As such, The Halo Light is compliant with arc flash requirements when attached to an ANSI Z89.1 rated hard hat.

The dielectric strength of The Halo Light/Battery system is 9000V so it should not be used in environments with higher voltage hazards.

Maintenance

We recommend first cleaning The Halo Light with a  damp cloth. However, The Halo Light does have an Ingress Protection Rating of IP67, meaning it is protected against 12.5 L/min of water projected by a nozzle (6.3 mm) at 30 kPa at a distance of 3m for 15 minutes, and it can be submerged in water up to 1m depth for 30 minutes.

Product Benefits

Every headlamp is different, but a typical camping headlamp produces about 50-75 lumens while The Halo Light produces up to 202 lumens. For more information on how The Halo Light compares, watch this video.

More Details

The Halo Light is designed specifically to fit on a hard hat, light a worker’s entire task area without adjustment, and illuminate the worker in all directions.

More Details

The Halo Light actively illuminates the worker and is not dependent on a secondary source of light reflecting at the right angle. The Halo Light actually improves the value of reflective gear by casting light down on the wearer as well as other people nearby and reflecting that light out.

More Details

The Halo Light is portable and personal, illuminating a worker’s task area without shadows regardless of where the worker moves, and at a fraction of the cost.
